About the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce is one of the largest and most active American Chambers in Europe. The Chamber aims to promote the development of Greek-American relations in the economic and business field and to promote an increase in trade and development between the two countries. The Chamber sponsors some of the leading conferences, exhibitions, fora and investment events in Greece. It organises and sponsors the Hour of the Greek Economy conference that annually examines the course of the Greek economy, and the annual Thessaloniki Forum, that delves into regional economic cooperation and Balkan reconstruction. Both have become paramount South-East European assemblies that draw the participation of the prime minister and opposition leader of Greece, prime ministers and ministers from throughout the region, and major personalities from the world of business, politics, and finance. In November 1999, the Chamber co-organised and hosted the state address of former U.S. President Clinton during his visit to Greece. The Chamber works closely on numerous events and projects with the United States Embassy in Athens. The President of the Chamber is Stephanos Costopoulos, while Alexander Lamnidis is the Chamber's Executive Director. Virtually all American companies that do business in Greece are members of the Chamber as are most Greek companies that engage in trade with the United States. The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit organisation and is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. and the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce (ECACC), an association of Chambers in 21 European and Mediterranean countries. Through ECACC, member Chambers can adopt common positions on issues of importance to international business and speak with one voice to the US Administration, the Congress, European governments and EU institutions. ECACC speaks for more than 16,000 American and European companies which employ 20 million people and have generated over USD 840 billion in investment on both sides of the Atlantic. The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce is recognised for its "Chamber Best Practices," employing sound business practices to promote business. In September 2000, the Chamber became the official trade representative in Greece of the New Jersey Commerce, Economic Growth & Tourism Commission, the first such agreement made by a U.S. state in Greece. New Chamber premises On March 7, 2000, the Chamber purchased its new premises at 109-111, Messoghion Avenue, Athens, during the presidency of Mr. Costas Papagiannacopoulos, with the kind support of various companies.
